We have tried several configurations. This one is the best in my book. I love that you can see what is going on inside. This idea requires you to drill several holes in the top of the breather, 6 total. I also drilled several in the steam. Trash the unneeded filter from the kit and I put stainless steel wool in the top as a filter to prevent the moisture from spiriting out. We have found that the holes in the top have to be large enough to prevent back pressure from building up in the crank and oil reservoir. So 6 holes seems to do the trick. Pretty sure I made them 1/8”. Also I used a one piece cross over banjo pipe that I found online. We are not against using the HK customs Catch Can. It works great! Just wanted to do our own thing. Love that you can see what’s happening inside!
We recently acquired this Sportster 1200 custom. To say the least we found a few issues. One of which was the Crank Breather System. Somewhere along the way the previous owners threw out the Give A Shit Manual and just went for it. Took the better part of the afternoon to unscrew what had been done. The air cleaner assy. was interfering with the lines and crank breather assy. This is a shame as the air cleaner had that fancy flapper on it that was actuated by the engine vacuume. So it looked so COOL- NOT! The lines were also routed incorrectly. Cut out all that BS and plugged up the passages. The diaphragm was touching the banjo bolt and putting pressure on the heads… Simple Solution! Cut the diaphragm off and make the flappers open permanently. Broke out the angle grinder and got after it. The results speak for themselves. It is a CLEAN fitment now! MOre Pictures in the photo Gallery below!
